You and I are  selected by God to be a light to the world that is suffering in moral decay and spiritual darkness. In other words, we are to be directly engaged in helping the world, while being careful not to embrace its values and ways on us. Rather, to let the world benefit by our example. There are many ways in which we can let our light shine as on people:

1. Being a reflector of light

A reflector is a lustrous object that is that reproduces a beam of light.

Christians, by reflecting radiant light from the Lord Jesus Christ using the glorious word of God,  we can illuminate a lost and lonely world, which is  shrouded in spiritual darkness.

They  looked to Him and  were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. (Psalm 34:5)

2. Being a refractor of light

A refractor is a device that alters the direction of a beam of light .

Therefore, if anyone cleanses  himself from the latter, he will be vessel for honor,
sanctified  and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
(2 Timothy 2:21)

By being vessels fit for the Master’s purpose, we can receive  glorious revelations from the Lord which can touch the lives of many  people.

3. Using light to expose

And  take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which  is the word of God.
(Ephesians  6:17)

Brethren, by welding the spirit which is the word of God , we can expose the reality of evil. As children of the light shining out of darkness, we can help unbelievers turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God (Acts 26:18). God will open their hearts  and minds to see the wonderful light of the glorious gospel of Christ.

4. Being an enlightener

An enlightener gives clarifying information, or teaches.

For you will light my lamp. The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. (Psalms18:28)

Brethren, by teaching God’s uncompromised word, we can enlighten the world about Jesus Christ and help them acknowledge the darkness around them.

5. Light as a beacon

A beacon is a symbol of hope, an inspiration or a guiding light.

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes  to the Father except through me.
(John 14:6)

Brethren, by being a beacon of light, we can help people  escape  out of darkness and point  them to the source  of life — Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. By doing good works and acts of kindness, we can draw those who are  in need and direct them to God’s unfailing love.

Conclusion

As light, we desire to live in a way  that pleases God and bring praise and honor to Him and not ourselves. May our speech always be with grace and let our light shine. May our light shine before humankind, that they (the world) may see our good works, and glorify our Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).  For we  are God’s workmanship, created  in Christ Jesus to do good  works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
