TAKE, EAT: THIS IS MY BODY

By Horane Smith

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
(1 Corinthians 11: 24-25).

It's the season of Passover for God's children. A time when we reflect on Jesus' sacrifice at Calvary for the sins of the world. Were it not for his sacrifice we would all remain dead in our sins - no resurrection. So, Passover is a time to celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. Indeed, He is risen, and not dead, as many seem to think in these times when sin has become so fashionable.

The Days of Unleavened Bread follow the Passover, a seven-day festival to observe our redemption of comming out of sin through the shed blood of Jesus. How timely and relevant are these symbolic acts that we do this time of the year. The world needs them. Therefore, when God asks us to eat of the bread, his body, and drink of the wine, his blood, the symbols

that we will take at the Passover Service on April 15th, we are showing how serious we are about the commitment we made to Him at baptism. It's certainly a challenge in these times to follow God's ways because the bible tells us in 1 John 5:19 that "the whole world lieth in wickedness." For many, these rituals may seem to be foolishness. Yet for Christians, it's such a meaningful and significant time to adore the One who loved the world so much that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For believers, we look forward to eat of this Bread of Life and drink of this Blood of Redemption because where else can we find true hope except in Jesus Christ and none other. The only name under the whole heaven by which a human can be saved is the name Jesus Christ. Nowadays, some people are ashame to say that because they fear they will offend non-believers. Who do we really follow, man or the God, who sacrificed His life for all our sins?

God's people are not ashamed of the gospel - the good news that He came, died for all of us, has gone to prepare a place for all of us. And "behold, I will come again...I will come quickly," with His Kingdom to be established right on this earth.

Happy are you if you do these things of God, rather than expending your time on meaningless things, or investing in bags with holes. The true Fountain of Living Water has left us the examples to follow until He returns to be with us always.
